About Delta Electronics
Delta Electronics is a globally trusted brand in industrial automation and power electronics. Delta is known for manufacturing high-quality AC drives, PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, power supplies, and industrial automation products.
Delta VFDs are designed using advanced control technology, high-efficiency power components, and strong protection systems, making them suitable for heavy-duty industrial environments.
What is a Delta VFD?
A Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is an electronic device used to control the speed and torque of an AC induction motor by changing the frequency and voltage of the power supplied to the motor.
Basic Working Principle
A Delta VFD works in three main stages:
Rectifier Section
Converts incoming AC supply into DC.
DC Bus Section
Filters and stores DC voltage using capacitors.
Inverter Section
Converts DC back into controlled AC with variable frequency.
By changing the output frequency (Hz), the motor speed changes according to the formula:
Motor Speed (RPM) = (120 × Frequency) / Number of Poles
This allows smooth speed control from zero to full speed.
Key Technical Features of Delta VFD
1. Multiple Control Modes
Delta VFD supports:
V/F Control (Voltage/Frequency Control)
Sensorless Vector Control (SVC)
Field Oriented Control (FOC) in advanced models
These control methods provide:
High starting torque (up to 150–200%)
Stable speed under load changes
Accurate speed regulation
Smooth acceleration and deceleration
2. Wide Power Range
Delta VFD is available in different power ratings:
0.2 kW to 500 kW and above (depending on series)
Single-phase 230V
Three-phase 415V
Medium voltage options in industrial applications
This makes it suitable for small machines as well as heavy industrial applications.
3. High Overload Capacity
Typical overload rating:
150% for 60 seconds
180% for 3 seconds (heavy-duty models)
This ensures stable operation in high starting torque applications like crushers, mixers, conveyors, and hoists.
4. Built-in PID Controller
Delta VFD includes a built-in PID control function which helps in:
Maintaining constant water pressure
Flow control in pumps
Temperature control
HVAC system management
This reduces the need for external PLC in basic automation systems.
5. Communication & Networking
Delta VFD supports various communication protocols:
Modbus RTU (standard)
CANopen
Profibus (optional)
Ethernet/IP (selected models)
This allows easy integration with:
PLC systems
HMI panels
SCADA software
Industrial automation networks
6. Protection Features
Delta VFD is equipped with advanced safety protections:
Overcurrent protection
Overvoltage protection
Undervoltage protection
Overload protection
Short circuit protection
Overtemperature protection
Earth fault detection
These protections increase motor life and reduce downtime.
